Summary
Loupe is a Chrome extension that lets you inspect, measure, capture, and extract design details from web pages you view. All of this happens locally in your browser. Loupe does not send your browsing data, page content, or any personal information to any server, and there is no analytics or tracking.
What Loupe accesses
When you activate Loupe on a tab (by clicking its toolbar icon or pressing Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+L), it reads that page's content and styles so its tools can work: computed CSS, element positions and sizes, colors, and fonts. This access is used only to display information back to you in the on-page overlay. It is not recorded or transmitted.
What Loupe stores
Loupe stores a small amount of your own preferences on your device using the browser's local extension storage: the overlay's on-screen position, which tools are enabled, and interface settings. This never leaves your device and is not synced to any server operated by us. You can erase it at any time by clearing the extension’s data in Chrome, and it is removed automatically when you uninstall Loupe.
Data you save
When you capture a screenshot or extract assets (images, CSS, or design tokens), Loupe saves those files to your computer only when you explicitly choose to download or export them. Those files are yours; Loupe keeps no copy.
What Loupe does not do
Loupe does not collect personally identifiable information, health, financial, or authentication information, personal communications, location, or web history. It does not sell or transfer your data to third parties, does not use your data for anything unrelated to its single purpose, and does not use your data for creditworthiness or lending. It never uses or transfers your data for personalized, re-targeted, or interest-based advertising, and no human — including the developer — can read your data, because none of it leaves your browser. It contains no remote code: all of its code ships inside the extension package.
Permissions
Loupe requests only what its tools need: activeTab and host access to run on the tab you choose, scripting to inject its overlay and tools into that page, offscreen to crop and stitch screenshots on-device, storage to remember your preferences, and downloads to save the files you export. Its host access (<all_urls>) is also used, only during an extraction you trigger, to fetch the bytes of images the page references — cross-origin images cannot be read from the page itself, so the extension fetches them to package into your export.
Changes
If Loupe ever adds a feature that would send data off your device (for example, an optional bring-your-own-key AI feature that you turn on yourself), this policy will be updated to describe it clearly before that feature ships enabled.
